I'm based in Calgary, Alberta. I throw and fire my pots at Centred Clay studio, and I glaze at my kitchen table. Glamorous, I know. 😂
My pottery story actually starts when I was 9. My mom signed me up for a hand-building class, I was disappointed the wheel class was full. I still remember that feeling. My mom still has the pieces I made. 🥹
Fast forward a lot of years, my sister had been telling me for ages to quit my job and just make pottery already. My husband finally bought me a gift certificate for a wheel class. The moment I sat down at the wheel... that was it. I was done for. He regrets that gift now with cupboards over flowing with the pieces I can't bear to part with.
I won't be quitting my day job (you'd have to buy a lot of mugs 😂), but I make because it fills something in me. And I make functional pieces because I want them to fill something in you too, that pause over your morning coffee, the quiet pleasure of cooking dinner with something beautiful, a pot that makes your favourite plant look like art.
Slow down. Pause. Use the good mug. Enjoy the moment.
That's what Studio Bloor Ceramics is about.
